...and then i found $40!

a very long and boring story story about a very long and borring bus ride

at the tica bus station, we asked for an approximation for how long the trip would take. from the times they gave us it looked like we were in for a 27 hour trip. our trip from nogalas to d.f. was about 4 hours ahead of schedule. but guatemala to managua was just under 400 miles. with tickets already purchased we boarded the bus at 1pm with a bag of bread and avocados and about an average of $30 each, enough for 2 border crossings and some extra for food. sometime after dark, at one of the stops, we noticed that everyone was getting off the bus except us. so, we got off too, and followed. we discovered that we were supposed to pay $12 each for a bed, and then wake up to get the bus that left at 4am. since $12 each would leave us with not enough for border crossings. so we needed to find another place to stay or an atm and beer. but when we left to go out the door we came it was LOCKED! fortunately the hotel sold beer! score! and chocolate milk! double score! and had an atm! just kidding! hee hee! okay, so the next morning we stopped at a gas station with an atm that didn't work and wouldn't give us cash back. so then we sweated a lot. We asked some girl from florida if she could lend us $20, but she couldn't, she too had borrowed money. in addition to our unexpected hotel visit, we assumed, though talking ot people and from our book, that honduras was free. but it was $3, so fucked... anyway, so the bus stops about 5 miles from the border of nica and the guy starts coming down the isle, collecting out passports and $7 each, and we’re like, "oh shit oh shit oh shit" so we tell the guy we dont have any money. so we get off the bus to se if we can exchange stan's travelers cheques. while stan is off doing that, i notice the dude with the neutral milk hotel shirt. coincidentally, back in guatemala city, we saw this guy at the bank, and then he was on our bus! crazy! so i tell him our story and he nods along, and then ask where he's from...(norway i think)where he's going... (managua) (YAY) and then i ask him if he had $20 bucks we could borrow. which he did. YAY! and then we ask for $30, cause that´s actually how much we needed, and he gave us 40! SCORE x 10!the end
